Poker Rules: Learning How to Play Poker GamesTexas Hold'em is the most popular poker game around today. Within the last few years, the poker boom has exploded into the fastest growing card game in the world. Texas Hold'em can be found being played at the World Series of Poker, on numerous television programs such as the World Poker Tour and Poker After Dark, as well as casinos and home games around the world. Texas Hold'emTexas Hold'em is a poker game with easy to understand rules that a beginning player can easily learn. This fast pace and complex game takes skill to learn and a lifetime to master. Texas Hold'em has become one of the most popular poker games played today. Texas Hold'em uses a disc called a dealer button to indicate who is the dealer in the hand and where the cards are to be dealt. Prior to the deal, the two players to the left of the dealer place bets called the small blind and big blind. It is called a blind because it is made prior to seeing any cards that are in play. A hand begins when two cards are dealt face down to each player at the table which are called hole cards or pocket cards. The action starts with a betting round beginning with the player to the left of the blind and continues clockwise around the table. Each player may check, bet, raise, or fold. The big blind in last to act and may check or raise the bet. After the first round of betting is complete, three community cards are then dealt face up in the center of the table which is called the flop. Another betting round takes place beginning with the player to the left of the dealer button. Another card is dealt face up which is referred to as the turn and followed by a round of betting. The fifth and final card is dealt face up which is known as the river and a final round of betting takes place. Players still remaining in the hand will then show their cards and the best poker hand will be given the pot. Any combination of hole or pocket cards and community cards may be used to make the best five card poker hand. OmahaOmaha is a form of Hold'em that has a few similarities and differences. First, you will receive four cards face down prior to the flop and you must use two cards from your hand combined with three cards from the board to form your best five card poker hand. Omaha is a poker game that uses a dealer button and blinds as in Texas Hold'em. The play begins with four cards dealt face down to each player at the table. The action starts with the first player to the left of the small and big blind beginning the betting. Each player may may check, bet, raise, or fold. After the first round of betting is complete, three community cards are then dealt face up in the center of the table in the same manner as in Texas Hold'em with betting after each round. After the final betting round, the players remaining in the hand will then show their cards and the best poker hand will be given the pot. Remember, you must use only two cards from your hand and three from the board to make the best five card poker hand. |
